Part of the problem with this picture is upon what this site is built.  Did you plan ahead?  An article in the paper today outlined some of the pitfalls ahead for people that didn't and don't have a contingency plan. My parents were blessed with a retirement plan that guaranteed a monthly stipend for as long as retirement lasted.  Today less that 15% of the population has that same benefit. As many as 42% of the population were relying on a stock based 401(k) for retirement income but with the economy tanking, taking the stock market with it, the return since 2000 has only been 4%. Others were relying on home ownership as a retirement fund.  Once again, this economy has caused as many as 22% of homeowners to be "underwater".  That means that they owe more than the property is worth. What this means is that many of the boomers, reaching 65 will have to stay in the work force longer.  The problem there lies with staying employed.  The number of workers 65 and older has increased by 2.2 million since 2000.  With national unemployment at near 10%, workers 55 and older stay unemployed for an average of 45 weeks, with untold millions far past 99 weeks.  That's double the time since 2007 and 12 weeks longer than their younger counterparts. This list is important because you are building a list of people who are interested in what you are representing.  You will be able to send them messages without spamming, since they have chosen to "opt-in" to your list.  One marketer stated that he was able to use lists related to other products to make sales in new markets. The company I prefer is Aweber.  You have probably seen the name in emails you have received if they represent some type of marketing effort.  Aweber has a deal going on right now where you can check it out for just one dollar! Happy Thanksgiving to all....................... 2010-11-16 18:29:18 http://my-retirement-project.com/Boomersjourney&p=87FC180FCE7641CDE040A8C0AC000B27 Once you have the basics down on writing a press release, you have to have some place to apply it.  A Google search revealed a website that offers a list of 60 free sites.  On that page, the free site is named and a Google page rank and Alexa traffic rank is included for each site.  Since I didn't have a clue what Alexa traffic rankings were, I did a little research so you wouldn't have to bother.  Alexa is a subsidiary of Amazon.  My understanding is that they have a tool bar that is installed on a willing user's computer, which in turn, collects information on visits, site sizes and other data.  This data is often collected on a daily basis but blended with existing data so that there are no spikes in rankings.  Alexa is strictly a popularity survey with no back links and directory inclusion involved.  It reflects the number of sites that have a higher popularity than the subject site.  Thus, the lower the number, the better the ranking! OK, that covered, we next addressed Affiliate Marketing and what it entails.  We covered how to become an affiliate and signed up at Clickbank. We then covered how to select a product and how to become an affiliate for that particular product and how to receive a Clickbank hoplink. Next we covered the necessity for a hosting account and I gave you my best choice.  Then, we covered the need for a domain name, directed at the product.  Once that was chosen we covered how to redirect that domain to the vendor's pitch page so as not to reveal your Clickbank hoplink. By opening a hosting account with Bluehost, you are given a free domain for the life of the account.  IMO, do not use it for one of your promotional campaigns.  Here's my reasoning.  Since the domain will be with you for the life of your hosting account and there is a good possibility that your promotional efforts for any product you choose will not, it will be wasted.  Instead, choose a domain name which relates to your new business as an affiliate marketer.  You then can target all sorts of promotions from there. Since we are committed to Clickbank, we need to go there to look for a product. Read all of this or plan on switching back and forth to check on what you are doing. From the "home" page on Clickbank, click on "promote products".  That will take you to a page which shows a link to "marketplace".  Click on that link and it will take you to the catagories available to choose.  You can use any of the catagories but for the first time we will use one of the most common, "health and fitness".  So go ahead and click on that. When the results pop up, look for the little square at the top that says, "results per page".  Change that to 50 so you don't have to keep switching to a new page in your search.  Since we don't want to be in competition with everyone on the Internet, we will be looking for a less popular product in, as already mentioned, a common catagory.   Begin your search by looking at the "stats" area.  There are three that you should consider.  Under the Initial $/sale, you should receive at least  twenty dollars or more.  Under the %/sale, you should get at least 50%.  Finally, under gravity, you should be looking for at least 20 but no more than 40.  Google has their own formula for setting gravity which is a mystery.  20 shows the product is getting some sales and a top of 40 shows it is not yet overpopulated. Next, click on the "red" title at the top of the product and check the "pitch page".  It should look professional and give you a good feeling toward the product.  If it doesn't, the customers won't like it either. Since this is not intended to be a course on anything but rather my efforts to make money on the Internet, I won't go into the myriad of possibilities related to becoming an affiliate.  For the purpose here, I will concentrate on Clickbank.  Clickbank is a resource that supports both vendors and affiliates.  The company keeps track of all transactions and actually writes the checks. As mentioned yesterday, an affiliate is someone who promotes a product or service to potential customers, in exchange for a commission on the sale when one occurs. Another choice is to sell a product for someone else.  This is commonly known as affiliate marketing.  In this scenario, you have no responsibility toward the product.  Your job is to expand the vendor's capability to get his product known to the public.  In return, you receive compensation from the vendor for each sale that is made through your efforts.   My choice is to be an affiliate.  Tomorrow, we will get into the nuts and bolts of making that happen. Take each item, whether physical or personal and put it in a sentence that portrays the fact that you already have it.  Be as specific as you can in the description. Let's say that you want a new Dodge 3500 truck.  I will create the sentences that should be in your script: I own a 2010 Dodge 3500 long bed truck.  It is blue with black interior.  The seats are leather.  My truck is a dually with a Cummins diesel engine.  My truck has four wheel drive and a towing package.  My truck has a GPS system and a CD stereo.  My truck bed is coated with Line-X.  You can include anything else that you can think of in the sentences.   While you are reading the script, take time to visualize the truck in all its details.  You can mix and match the physical with the personal needs and wants. My list is over six pages long and takes a while to get through each time.  Take all the time you need as it will pay dividends in the end. Take time to write a comprehensive script and put it into a form that is easy for you to read each time.
